17 Years on the Run Ends: Fugitive Arrested in Dowry Case by Faridabad Police

In a significant development in a long-pending criminal investigation, Faridabad Police have arrested a man who had been absconding for nearly 17 years in a dowry harassment case. The accused, identified as Noor Mohammad, was apprehended by the Anti-Vehicle Theft (AVT) staff after sustained surveillance and a carefully planned operation.
The case originates from the year 2009, when an FIR was registered at Sector-58 Police Station in Faridabad under Sections 498A and 406 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). These sections relate to cruelty against a married woman by husband or relatives and criminal breach of trust involving dowry or property. According to police records, after the registration of the case, the accused repeatedly failed to appear before the court and evaded legal proceedings. As a result, he was declared a proclaimed offender by the court of Vimal Kumar on 23 February 2010.
Since then, the accused had been on the run for almost two decades, frequently changing his location and avoiding detection by law enforcement agencies. Despite multiple attempts by the police, he managed to remain untraceable for years, making this one of the long-pending absconding cases in the region. In recent weeks, police received specific intelligence inputs regarding the possible location of the accused. Acting swiftly on this information, a team from the AVT staff
initiated surveillance and verification procedures. After confirming his identity, the team conducted a targeted operation and successfully arrested him without incident. Following his arrest, the accused was taken into custody and later handed over to Sector-58 Police Station in Faridabad. Officials confirmed that he will now be produced before the court for further legal proceedings, and his judicial custody is expected to follow as per due process. Police officials have stated that the arrest reflects their continued commitment to
ensuring that long-absconding offenders are brought to justice, regardless of the time elapsed. They also emphasized that special teams are actively working on tracking proclaimed offenders across the region. The case once again highlights the seriousness of dowry-related offences in India and the legal consequences faced by those who attempt to evade the judicial system for years. Authorities have assured that similar operations will continue in order to strengthen law enforcement and ensure accountability in all pending criminal cases.
