Massive Fire in Tauru Destroys GRC Materials Worth Lakhs, Flames Controlled After Two-Hour Rescue Operation

A devastating fire once again shook Tauru on Saturday after a massive blaze erupted in an open industrial storage area near the busy Nuh–Tauru Road. The incident created panic among local residents as thick black smoke covered the surrounding area and flames could be seen from several kilometers away. According to initial reports, GRC moulds and industrial materials worth several lakhs of rupees were completely destroyed in the fire.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns about industrial safety arrangements and fire prevention systems in rapidly developing commercial zones across Haryana.
Fire Broke Out Suddenly in Open Plot
According to local sources, the fire started suddenly during the afternoon in a vacant plot where large quantities of Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC) moulds, construction equipment, and industrial goods had been stored. Witnesses said flames spread rapidly within minutes because of the highly combustible materials present at the site.
People living near the area initially noticed smoke rising from the storage yard before the fire turned into a massive blaze. As the flames intensified, nearby residents and workers rushed to the location in an attempt to control the fire before emergency teams arrived. However, due to strong winds and dry weather conditions, the blaze quickly spread across the entire storage area.
Panic Among Residents as Smoke Covers Area
The fire caused panic in nearby residential colonies and commercial establishments. Thick smoke clouds filled the sky, making visibility difficult on parts of the Nuh–Tauru road. Several commuters stopped their vehicles to observe the incident while others tried to avoid the smoke-filled route.
Residents feared that the fire could spread to nearby structures, warehouses, and parked vehicles. Families living close to the affected area temporarily moved away from the spot as a precautionary measure. Eyewitnesses described the situation as extremely frightening.
The flames were rising very high and smoke spread everywhere within minutes. We thought nearby buildings might also catch fire,” said one local resident.
Fire Brigade Reaches Spot
Soon after receiving information about the incident, multiple fire brigade vehicles rushed to the scene. Firefighters immediately began rescue and cooling operations while police personnel helped control crowds and traffic movement near the affected area.
According to officials, the operation continued for nearly two hours before the flames were finally brought under control. Firefighters faced difficulties due to the intensity of the blaze and the presence of industrial materials stored in the open. Water tankers and emergency support teams were also called to prevent the fire from spreading further. Local residents also assisted rescue teams by using water pipes and attempting to move unburned materials away from the flames.
Goods Worth Lakhs Destroyed
Initial estimates suggest that property and materials worth several lakhs were destroyed in the incident. Most of the damaged items reportedly belonged to firms dealing in GRC products and construction materials.
The stored moulds, industrial equipment, and raw materials were completely reduced to ashes before the fire could be controlled.
Business owners expressed concern over the heavy financial losses caused by the sudden incident. Some workers at the site claimed that important machinery and finished products were also damaged in the blaze. Authorities are currently assessing the total value of losses.
No Casualties Reported
Despite the intensity of the fire, no injuries or deaths have been reported so far. Officials confirmed that all workers and nearby residents were safely evacuated from the area in time.
Police personnel and emergency workers ensured that people remained at a safe distance during the firefighting operation. Residents described it as fortunate that the incident did not occur during peak working hours, otherwise the situation could have become even more dangerous.
Cause of Fire Under Investigation
The exact reason behind the fire remains unknown. However, preliminary reports suggest that a short circuit may have triggered the blaze. Some locals also claimed that garbage or medical waste dumped near the site may have caught fire first before spreading to the stored industrial materials.
Fire department officials have started an investigation to determine the real cause of the incident. Authorities are also examining whether proper fire safety measures were available at the storage location. If negligence is found, strict action may be taken against those responsible.
Traffic Disrupted on Nuh–Tauru Road
The incident also caused major traffic congestion on the busy Nuh–Tauru route. Hundreds of people gathered near the spot after seeing the massive flames and smoke. Police had to divert traffic temporarily to allow fire brigade vehicles to operate smoothly. Many commuters faced delays as emergency teams continued their operation for several hours.
Growing Concerns Over Industrial Safety
The latest incident has once again highlighted concerns regarding fire safety standards in industrial and storage areas across Haryana. Residents have demanded stricter monitoring of industrial sites, proper storage regulations, and better emergency preparedness to prevent such accidents in the future.
Locals also questioned why inflammable industrial materials were being stored in open spaces near residential zones without adequate protection systems. Experts say that with rising temperatures during the summer season, the risk of accidental fires increases significantly, especially in areas lacking proper fire management systems
Authorities Promise Action
Following the incident, local administration officials assured residents that a detailed investigation would be conducted. Authorities stated that safety inspections in nearby industrial areas may also be intensified to avoid similar incidents in the future.
Officials from the fire department urged factory owners and storage operators to follow all fire safety guidelines, install emergency equipment, and conduct regular inspections. The situation in the area is now under control, but the incident has left business owners and residents worried about the growing number of fire accidents in the region.
