NEET UG 2026 Exam Cancelled: NTA Announces Re-Exam After Paper Leak Allegations

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially cancelled the NEET UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3, 2026, following serious allegations of a paper leak and examination irregularities across multiple states in India. The announcement has impacted more than 22 lakh medical aspirants who appeared for the country’s biggest undergraduate medical entrance exam.

According to official statements, the Government of India approved the cancellation after investigative agencies submitted inputs suggesting that the integrity of the examination process may have been compromised. The case has now been referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a detailed inquiry.

Why Was NEET UG 2026 Cancelled?

Reports indicate that authorities discovered strong evidence linked to a suspected paper leak network operating from Rajasthan. Investigators allegedly found a “guess paper” circulating before the exam that reportedly matched a large number of questions from the actual NEET UG 2026 paper.

The controversy quickly spread across social media platforms, with students, parents, and coaching institutes demanding transparency and a fair investigation. Rajasthan’s Special Operations Group (SOG) reportedly detained several individuals connected to the suspected leak.

What NTA Said in Its Official Statement

NTA confirmed that: The May 3, 2026 NEET UG exam stands cancelled. A fresh examination will be conducted. New exam dates will be announced separately. Students do not need to register again. Existing application data and exam centre preferences will remain valid. No additional examination fee will be charged for the re-exam. The agency also stated that revised admit cards and updated schedules will be released through official channels soon.

Massive Impact on Medical Aspirants

The cancellation has created anxiety and uncertainty among millions of students preparing for MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other medical courses. Many aspirants had already completed months of intense preparation and were waiting for answer keys and results before the sudden announcement.

Student organizations also staged protests in Delhi and other cities, demanding accountability and stricter safeguards in national-level examinations. Heavy security deployment was reported near protest locations.

Re-Exam Expected Soon

While NTA has not yet announced the revised examination date, officials indicated that the re-conducted exam may be scheduled soon to avoid delays in the medical admission process for the 2026 academic session. Students have been advised to continue preparation and regularly check official portals for updates.

The cancellation of NEET UG 2026 has become one of the biggest education controversies in recent years. With lakhs of students affected and a CBI probe now underway, the focus has shifted toward ensuring transparency, fairness, and security in future examinations. Aspirants are now waiting for fresh exam dates and hoping for a smooth and credible re-examination process.
