
US lawyer and President Donald Trump’s aide Kashyap “Kash” Patel has been appointed as the chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) following a narrow 51-49 vote in the Senate. With this confirmation, it is the first time that an Indian-origin person will work in the agency.

Born on February 25, 1980, in Garden City, New York, to Indian Gujarati parents, Patel earned a bachelor’s degree in history and criminal justice from the University of Richmond. He later earned a Juris Doctor from Pace University School of Law and a master’s degree in international law from University College London.
Professional Background
Patel’s career began as a public defender in Florida, where he handled cases ranging from murder to complex misdemeanors. He then moved to the Justice Department as a trial attorney at the National Institutes of Justice, focusing on counterterrorism. In 2017, he joined the House Intelligence Committee as a senior counsel, where he has been involved in challenging the investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election
