Guwahati is inundated following heavy overnight rains on May 20, 2025. Several areas including Zoo Road, Naveen Nagar, Hatigaon, Ganeshguri and Maligaon are inundated with water levels reaching chest level in some low-lying areas. The city recorded 112.5 mm rainfall at the Guwahati AWS station

The flooding has caused significant disruptions:

Transportation: Public transport services have been paralyzed, leading to massive traffic jams. Commuters faced delays of over three hours due to submerged roads in areas like Zoo Road, Nabin Nagar, and Ulubari

Education: Waterlogging in many schools, especially in Hatigaon, Maligaon and Ganeshguri, led to suspension of classes. Even in schools that remained open, student attendance was poor as they were stranded or arrived late

Utilities: Many homes were flooded, and power was out in many areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning that heavy rains will continue over the next few days, raising concerns of further waterlogging and some thunderstorms. The Chief Minister of Assam has advised residents to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for more rain in the coming days.
